The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State, following what party leaders described as extensive consultations and strategic engagements with key stakeholders and Ogun incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON.
The decision, party sources disclosed, emerged from a consensus-building process aimed at presenting a strong, credible, and widely accepted candidate capable of leading the party to victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll.
As part of efforts to ensure unity within the party, leading aspirants from Ogun West, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade, were said to have thrown their weight behind Adeola’s emergence. Their support, according to party insiders, underscores a growing resolve among stakeholders in the district to present a common front.
The move is also seen as a strategic step toward actualising the long-standing agitation for Ogun West to produce the next governor of the state an aspiration that has remained unfulfilled since the creation of Ogun State in 1976.
Party leaders noted that the selection process involved wide-ranging consultations, including engagements at the highest levels, with aspirants assessed based on competence, capacity, and alignment with the party’s developmental vision for the state.
They added that Adeola’s emergence reflects not only his political experience and leadership credentials but also a shared commitment within the APC to sustain and expand ongoing development strides across Ogun State.
Reaffirming its readiness for the 2027 contest, the APC called on members to remain united, law-abiding, and focused on the party’s collective objective of retaining power in the state.
“With this mandate, we are confident that Senator Adeola will consolidate on the legacy of progress and deliver greater dividends of democracy in line with the aspirations of our founding fathers and the expectations of the people,” the party stated.
