The Jadiara Royal House, a prominent branch of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode, has officially refuted media reports claiming that a three-candidate consensus has been reached for the vacant Awujale stool.
In a press statement issued on August 10, 2026, the royal family dismissed a recent report by 'Ikokore Reporters' shortlisting Bode Onanuga, Bimbo Onabanjo, and Folu Aderibigbe for consultation, describing the publication as misleading, speculative, and entirely without foundation.
It was signed by Otunba Prince Akinola Odedina (DBA, FCA), the *Oloriebi* (head) of the Jadiara Royal House, the statement asserted that media outlets lack the traditional, statutory, and customary authority to shortlist or announce candidates for the revered throne.
The royal family emphasized that selecting the next Awujale remains the exclusive prerogative of legally recognized bodies—namely the ruling house, the kingmakers, and relevant government institutions acting under established customs and statutory laws.
"Only the ruling house, kingmakers, and other relevant institutions can determine qualified aspirants in accordance with the customs and laws governing the Awujale succession," the statement read.
The family urged all parties involved to uphold due process, ensuring every qualified aspirant is evaluated strictly on merit, tradition, and legal frameworks, rather than unverified narratives or speculative reports.
Addressing the media coverage surrounding the succession, the royal house criticized attempts to introduce conspiracy theories into the public debate. It called on commentators to substantiate allegations rather than fuel public speculation.
The statement also raised concerns over the portrayal of certain contenders, pointing out that coverage regarding aspirant Ademorin Kuye had been "dismissive and denigrating." The royal house appealed to journalists and bloggers to maintain objectivity and provide a level playing field for all contenders to prevent unnecessary tension and division across Ijebuland.
Turning to the role of public authorities, the Jadiara Royal House called on the Ogun State Government to discharge its statutory obligations transparently and strictly in accordance with the law. The family cautioned against external pressures, insisting that state authorities be allowed to carry out their duties without interference.
Reaffirming its position, the Jadiara Royal House reiterated its dedication to maintaining peace, fostering unity, and preserving the dignity of the ancient Awujale institution throughout the selection process.
