Abeokuta, Ogun State – Security chiefs in Ogun State, led by the Security Consultant to the Governor, CP Edward Ajogun (Rtd.), on Sunday conducted a high-level joint operational assessment and show of force across the Ogun–Ondo border corridor as part of intensified efforts to reinforce security and sustain the successes recorded under Operation Kosaye.
The exercise, coordinated by the Ogun State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies and key government stakeholders, focused on the Ogun Waterside axis, including Iwopin, Abigi and Ibiade communities, with the objective of strengthening inter-agency collaboration and curbing criminal activities within the border communities.
The joint assessment team comprised the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni; Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General J.O. Onu; Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ogun State, R.A. Adelakun; the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo; Commander of the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun Corps), Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (Rtd.); Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo; as well as the Executive Chairmen of Ijebu East, Ijebu North East and Ogun Waterside Local Government Areas.
The operational tour covered major communities and strategic locations along the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway, stretching from Ijebu Ode through J2, J3, J4, Itele, Atoyo, Agerige, Ogbere, Ibiade, Iwopin and Abigi before terminating at Ajebandele, the boundary community between Ogun and Ondo states.
During the exercise, the security team assessed vulnerable flashpoints, reviewed the prevailing security situation, evaluated operational requirements and examined terrain factors affecting security operations within the corridor. The exercise also provided an opportunity to strengthen intelligence sharing, improve inter-agency coordination and engage community stakeholders in efforts aimed at preventing crime.
The show of force was designed to reassure residents, commuters and motorists of the readiness of security agencies to safeguard lives and property, maintain security dominance across the border corridor and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
Speaking after the exercise, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the collaboration among participating security agencies, government officials and other stakeholders. He reaffirmed the command's commitment to sustaining joint security operations, enhancing intelligence-driven policing, deploying modern policing technology and strengthening partnerships with local communities to improve public safety across Ogun State.
The police commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, credible and actionable intelligence to security agencies, stressing that effective security requires active cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public.
