Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress across the nine local government areas of Ogun East Senatorial District on Monday, May 18, 2026, converged at the Itoro Local Government Secretariat in Ijebu-Ode for the collation and validation of votes recorded during the party’s senatorial primary exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election, conducted across the 104 wards in Ogun East Senatorial District under the supervision of OGSIEC officials, culminated in the official declaration of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as the APC senatorial candidate for Ogun East.
The announcement was made before party stakeholders, leaders and delegates gathered at the collation centre following the conclusion of the ward-by-ward validation process.
The event attracted prominent party chieftains, elected officials, local government executives, councillors, women leaders and APC faithful from across the district.
Among dignitaries present were Hon. James Dina, who represented the APC State Chairman, former Deputy Governor Yetunde Onanuga, Hon. Joseph Adegbesan, GAEC Baba Sarumi, Alhaji Dapo Okubadejo, Otunba Wesco, Hon. Arigbabu, Hon. Kope, Hon. Dadah, Hon. Funmi Afuwape, Hon. Tola Banjo, Hon. Adeleye (HACCO), and Hon. Dare Alebiosu, alongside local government party chairmen, women leaders and ward executives.
Results announced at the venue showed overwhelming support for Governor Abiodun across the nine local government areas in Ogun East Senatorial District.
According to the collated figures, APC in Sagamu Local Government registered 11,285 members, with Abiodun securing 8,434 votes, while former Governor Gbenga Daniel, popularly known as OGD, polled zero votes and Bukola Buraimo secured seven votes.
In Ijebu North East Local Government, where 7,120 members were registered, Abiodun polled 5,655 votes, while OGD secured 12 votes and Bukola Buraimo recorded 17 votes.
Ikene Local Government, with 8,680 registered members, returned 8,026 votes for Abiodun, while votes for the other aspirants were declared null.
Remo North Local Government, which registered 8,857 members, recorded 7,034 votes for Abiodun, six votes for OGD and no valid vote for Bukola Buraimo.
In Ijebu-Ode Local Government, with 15,760 registered members, Governor Abiodun secured 10,942 votes, while OGD’s votes were declared null and Bukola Buraimo recorded five votes.
Ogun Waterside Local Government, with 8,283 registered members, delivered 6,958 votes for Abiodun, while no valid votes were recorded for the other contenders.
Odogbolu Local Government, which registered 11,472 members, delivered 7,989 votes for Abiodun, while OGD secured 219 votes and Bukola Buraimo recorded no valid vote.
In Ijebu East Local Government, with 10,219 registered members, Abiodun polled 7,058 votes, OGD secured 139 votes, while Bukola Buraimo recorded no valid vote.
Ijebu North Local Government recorded the highest figures with 17,109 registered members. Abiodun polled 13,464 votes, while OGD secured 22 votes and Bukola Buraimo recorded no valid vote.
At the end of the exercise, the final collated results showed that Abiodun secured a total of 75,560 votes, while OGD polled 398 votes and Bukola Buraimo recorded 29 votes.
The presiding official thereafter declared Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, winner of the APC Ogun East Senatorial primary and presented him with the official score sheet amid applause from party stakeholders and supporters.
In his acceptance remarks, Governor Abiodun appreciated the APC State Chairman, Hon. Sanusi, represented by Hon. James Dina, the Senatorial Chairman Hon. Adedoyin, Hon. Joseph Adegbesan, local government party chairmen and women leaders, elders, councillors, ward executives and party members for their commitment and support throughout the primary process.
He also commended OGSIEC officials for conducting what he described as a credible exercise and praised security agencies, particularly the police, for ensuring peace, safety and orderliness during the process.
Governor Abiodun further acknowledged the presence and contributions of local government executive chairmen across the district, including Hon. Oluwadamilare Kehinde of Ijebu East, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya of Ijebu North, Hon. Joseph Badejo of Ijebu North East, Hon. Damilare Alebiosu of Ijebu-Ode, Hon. Jamiu Asimi of Ikene, Hon. Babatunde Diya of Odogbolu, Hon. Ganiyu Odunnoiki of Ogun Waterside, Hon. Muyiwa Sodade of Remo North, and Hon. Olasile Odulate of Sagamu Local Government.
Party leaders and stakeholders at the event described the primary exercise as peaceful, transparent and reflective of the confidence reposed in Governor Abiodun’s leadership and political direction ahead of the 2027 senatorial election in Ogun East.
