Governor Abiodun Commissions Elega–Saje Road, Targets Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Next

Governor Dapo Abiodun has commissioned the Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road in Abeokuta, marking another milestone in the Ogun State government’s ongoing infrastructure drive.

The development was disclosed by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Tayo Mabeweje, who described the project as a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening the state’s economic and urban framework.

Beyond its physical scope, the newly commissioned road is expected to boost economic activities by improving connectivity across key residential, commercial, and market clusters within Abeokuta. The corridor, which links several densely populated areas, has already begun to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and enhance the movement of goods and services.

Observers note that the project reflects the administration’s broader commitment to using infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth. With improved road access, businesses within the axis are reportedly experiencing increased patronage, while transportation costs have declined.

The government also disclosed plans to install solar-powered streetlights along the corridor to enhance security and support night-time commercial activities.

Urban development experts view the project as part of a wider strategy to deepen economic integration within the state capital and extend the benefits of industrial growth beyond major highways into inner-city areas.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun has announced that the reconstruction of the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road will commence soon. The project, described as economically significant, will include a one-kilometre connecting road and a bridge linking Lafenwa, aimed at improving access and easing congestion in surrounding communities.

The administration said the initiative underscores its approach to infrastructure development—prioritising interconnected projects that collectively enhance mobility, productivity, and economic efficiency.

With the commissioning of the Elega–Saje corridor and plans underway for Ago-Odo–Lafenwa, the Ogun State government says it remains focused on sustaining development momentum through phased and coordinated infrastructure delivery.

Officials maintain that these projects are not isolated efforts but part of a long-term vision to position Ogun State as a leading industrial and commercial hub in Nigeria.
