The Ogun State Executive Council has approved seven road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state, including the construction of Yemogun Street in Ogere, Ikenne Local Government Area, a move that has generated renewed debate among residents over infrastructure priorities.
The approvals were granted at the Council’s meeting held on Friday at the Executive Chamber and presided over by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
According to the state government, the projects are designed to enhance connectivity, ease movement, and stimulate socio-economic development across the three senatorial districts.
Among the approved roads is Yemogun Street in Ogere, a 1.25-kilometre stretch expected to improve internal access within parts of the town. While residents have welcomed the project as a positive step, some community members have expressed concern that more critical access roads may have been overlooked.
Ogere occupies a strategic position along a key commuter route linking Iperu, Sagamu and Abeokuta, with residents noting that traffic from Iperu to government offices in Abeokuta regularly passes through the town. Despite this, locals say major connecting roads such as Osinlaru Road and Bode Ogunlana Road, which link Ogere to the Iperu–Ogere–Isiún axis, remain in deplorable condition.
Observers argue that while Yemogun Street serves the community, it is not a major access route to the highway or the heavier traffic corridors, prompting calls for a more comprehensive and strategic approach to road upgrades in the area.
Many residents view the project as a starting point rather than a final solution, noting that it represents the first notable infrastructural intervention in Ogere during the Abiodun administration.
Beyond Ogere, the Council also approved additional projects, including the Molipa Expressway Roundabout to Ibadan Garage stretch along the Ejirin–Folagbade Roundabout in Ijebu-Ode; further rehabilitation works on Bible College Road in Ota; Ajaka Road via Awolowo Market in Sagamu; Gbadebo Street and Hospital Road in Ayegbami, Sagamu; Okenla Street off Imoru Road in Ijebu-Ode; and the reconstruction of the right-hand side of the Carwash–Moore Junction Road in Adatan, Abeokuta.
The Executive Council further approved the reconstruction and completion of the Block E Office Complex within the State Secretariat at Oke Imosan, Abeokuta. The facility, renamed Revenue House, is intended to improve working conditions for revenue-generating agencies and enhance operational efficiency.
In addition, the Council confirmed several traditional leadership appointments, including Prince Raheem Afolabi Ogunlaja as Nnoku of Iraye in Remo North Local Government Area; Prince Tajudeen Adeoye Olukunle as Onisale of Isale, Gbokoto in Yewa North; Prince Obajimi Sunday Olatunji as Alodo of Ado in Sagamu; Prince Dr. Adesegun Adedapo Ogunsola as Lowa Ibu of Batoro in Sagamu; and Prince (Elder) Moses Oludotun Fadairo as Baale of Orile Oko.
For residents of Ogere, the latest approval has reopened conversations about infrastructure needs in the town, with many urging the state government to prioritise the rehabilitation of major connecting roads that serve as vital links for daily commuters and economic activities
