The Commissioning of an adopted and newly renovated medical bungalow at Iwade-Oke Primary Health Centre marks a significant milestone in strengthening primary healthcare delivery in Ijebu-Ode through a firm collaboration of Ogun State, Local Government, Community and indigenous Professional Nurses in diaspora.
The commissioning ceremony featured the cutting of the ribbon and unveiling of the inscribed Marble by the Host Chairman, Hon. Dare Sikirulai Alebiosu the Executive Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Ogun State, alongside his Vice Chairman, Hon. Titilayo Adeyemi. The event was graced by invited guests, Muslim and Christian clerics, community leaders, friends, staff of Iwade-Oke Medical Centre, and members of the press.
The project was facilitated by a proud daughter of Ijebu-Ode, Dr. (Mrs.) Titilola Turton (née Osinowo), who was represented at the event by Colonel Awote.
Iwade-Oke Primary Health Centre main building was originally constructed in 2013 as part of a constituency project by Rt. Hon. Tola Banjo, former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, the mini medical bungalow had functioned with a single ward for over a decade.
The commissioned mini Bungallow was located behind the main Iwade-Oke Primary Health Centre, the building has now been fully adopted and transformed into a modern, functional healthcare facility.
The renovation was made possible through the generosity of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNA) in collaboration with the Nigerian Illinois Nurses Association (NINA), Ijebu Alare Association, Chicago, Illinois, USA, and Egbe Gbobaniyi Olanrewaju Obinrin Akile Ijebu. The project was executed under the Adopt a Primary Health Care Initiative tagged “Take Us to Your Home-Town.” Construction was handled by Engr. Abayomi Ayodele, with the support of the host local government leadership.
In his welcome address, Colonel Awote expressed deep appreciation to NANNA and NINA for their impactful intervention and, speaking on behalf of the community, appealed for the provision of additional wards to further strengthen healthcare delivery.
In his remarks, Hon. Dare S. Alebiosu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to sustaining primary healthcare services and ensuring quality healthcare delivery to the grassroots.
Delivering the Commissioner’s speech, Dr. Oladipupo described the NANNA/NINA initiative as a model of sustainable development and a shining example of diaspora partnership with state and local governments. He emphasized that the project represents a long-term investment in national development and community welfare that will serve generations yet unborn.
He further noted that the initiative aligns perfectly with the government’s vision of building a resilient, effective, and formidable healthcare system, stressing that Primary Health Care remains the bedrock of sustainable healthcare delivery, helping to reduce pressure on secondary and tertiary health facilities. The Ministry of Health, he assured, remains committed to continuous staffing, provision of essential medicines, regular supervision, and strong local ownership of health facilities.
“Today, we are not just commissioning a building,” he stated, “we are celebrating renewed hope.”
Dignitaries in attendance included Mrs. Titilayo Wale-Dada, Matron, Iwade-Oke Primary Health Centre; Dr. (Mrs.) Sosan, National Member, NINA/NANNA; Dr. (Mrs.) Olufunke Odukoya, Lead Facilitator, NINA/NANNA; Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Awoye-Otufowoba, retired Chief Nursing Officer; Alhaji Idris, Imam of Iwade-Oke; Mr. Joe Sosan, Administrator, Vintage Health System; medical and administrative staff of Iwade-Oke Primary Health Centre; and other distinguished guests from Ijebu-Ode and beyond.
