The Ogun State Government has committed to settling the outstanding severance entitlements for former councillors who held office across the state's 20 Local Government Areas from 2021 to 2024.

Ganiyu Hamzat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirmed that Governor Dapo Abiodun instructed officials to calculate the financial requirements and begin the disbursement pipeline. Processing is currently underway to resolve individual bank loans tied to former officials, ensuring financial obligations are cleared directly with lending institutions before final funds are released.

The announcement follows a press conference in Ijebu-Ode held by the Ogun State Councillors Forum (2021–2024). Representing the group, Abass Mohammed a former Legislative Council Leader for Ijebu North urged the state government to expedite payments for ex-councillors and other former local political appointees. The group emphasized that the delayed funds are crucial to relieve severe financial pressures, noting that several former colleagues face critical medical conditions and more than two dozen have passed away since completing their tenure
