In a major operational breakthrough the operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded a massive victory against violent crime, successfully rescuing an abducted victim and eliminating two suspected kidnappers.
The operation was highlighted in a Press release on X today, issued by ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, Deputy PPRO, Ogun State Command, Abeokuta of the Command's proactive, intelligence-driven strategy aimed at eliminating criminal threats and protecting residents across the state.
The incident began on August 25, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m., when a professional truck driver was kidnapped in the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State, following the report of the abduction, the swift Police Response, Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a targeted operation designed to secure the victim's safe release and track down the perpetrators.
Acting on precise intelligence, police operatives stormed the gang's hideout situated along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road. A fierce firefight ensued, resulting in two kidnappers being neutralized on-site, while several other gang members escaped deeper into the surrounding area with severe gunshot wounds.
A thorough search of the criminal den yielded significant evidence, including arms ammunition of two AK-47 rifles, twenty-five rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones, and ₦2,000,000 in cash recovered, believed to be proceeds from their ransom operations. The rescued driver was safely freed, while the bodies of the neutralized suspects were transferred to the morgue for autopsy.
Following the raid, the Ogun State Police Command expanded its search operations to track down the surviving gang members. Police authorities are actively monitoring surrounding communities and medical facilities where the injured suspects might seek emergency treatment.
Commending the Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their gallantry and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, affirmed that the operation demonstrates the Command's unyielding determination to dismantle criminal networks. He reiterated that Ogun State will remain entirely hostile to violent offenders.
CP Ojajuni assured citizens of continued tactical operations and community partnership to guarantee public safety. He urged residents cooperation and vigilance to stay alert and report any individuals seeking care for gunshot injuries to aid the ongoing manhunt for the fleeing criminals.
