Commissioner Hails Abiodun’s Aviation Vision, Says Airport’s Successful Pilgrim Reception Signals Growing Capacity for Commercial and Special Flight Operations

The Ogun State Government has celebrated the successful arrival of its returning pilgrims at the Gateway International Airport, describing the development as another landmark achievement in the state’s ongoing drive to strengthen infrastructure, expand economic opportunities, and position Ogun as a strategic transportation hub.
The arrival of the pilgrims marked one of the airport’s most significant operations since its establishment, with state officials describing the seamless reception as evidence of the facility’s operational readiness and growing relevance within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Gbenga Dairo, praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as visionary leadership and sustained investment in critical infrastructure.
According to him, the successful use of Gateway International Airport for the return of Ogun pilgrims represents a defining moment in the state’s aviation journey and further validates the administration’s commitment to unlocking new economic and transportation opportunities.
Dairo noted that the smooth landing, processing, and reception of the pilgrims demonstrated the airport’s ability to handle significant aviation activities while showcasing its potential as a gateway for commerce, investment, and regional connectivity.
He said the achievement reflects the governor’s determination to transform Ogun State into a leading destination for business, transportation, and economic development.
“This is not only a proud moment for Ogun State but also a clear indication of the progress being recorded through deliberate investments in infrastructure. The successful arrival of our pilgrims at Gateway International Airport demonstrates the growing capacity and strategic importance of the facility,” he said.
The commissioner also commended the airport management, aviation personnel, security agencies, and other stakeholders whose coordinated efforts ensured a hitch-free operation.
He described the exercise as proof that Ogun State possesses the institutional and operational capacity required to host major aviation activities and support future expansion within the sector.
Beyond celebrating the milestone, Dairo congratulated the returning pilgrims on the successful completion of their spiritual obligations and wished them safe reunions with their families and communities.
Also reacting to the development, the Governor’s Consultant on Aviation, Capt. Dapo Olumide, said the successful reception of the pilgrims further strengthens confidence in the airport’s future role as a catalyst for economic growth and regional development
According to him, the operation highlights the airport’s increasing capability to support both commercial and special flight services while enhancing connectivity within Ogun State and the wider Southwest region.
Olumide noted that the achievement aligns with the broader vision of the Abiodun administration to modernise transportation infrastructure, attract investment, and improve access to economic opportunities.
He added that the successful exercise serves as another validation of the state government’s investment in aviation infrastructure and reinforces Gateway International Airport’s readiness for expanded operations.
For Ogun State, the safe arrival of the pilgrims was more than a transportation exercise.
