Amid growing concerns over economic hardship and governance outcomes across Nigeria, citizens have been urged to redirect attention toward the performance of state governments, rather than placing sole responsibility on the presidency.

Under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allocations to state governments have reportedly increased, resulting in higher monthly disbursements to governors. These funds are intended to support infrastructure development, salary payments, and improved public services at the state level.

However, despite the increased financial inflows, many states continue to grapple with deteriorating infrastructure, underfunded healthcare systems, delayed salary payments, and widespread poverty.

Concerns were further heightened following reports from Bauchi State, where Governor Bala Mohammed was seen distributing brand new vehicles to emirs and district heads. The development has sparked debate over spending priorities, especially in the face of pressing socio-economic challenges affecting residents.

Analysts say the situation raises critical questions about governance at the subnational level. With billions of naira reportedly received monthly, observers are asking why many communities still lack basic infrastructure and essential services.

Stakeholders are now calling for increased civic engagement and accountability, urging Nigerians to demand transparency from their governors. Key questions being raised include the utilization of federal allocations, the visibility of developmental projects, and the persistent delays in salary payments in some states.

Experts emphasize that while federal leadership plays a significant role, state governments control a substantial share of public resources and bear direct responsibility for local development outcomes.

As calls for accountability grow louder, citizens are being encouraged to actively engage their state leaders and demand measurable progress, reinforcing the principle that effective governance must be reflected at all levels.
