The Senator representing Yewa senatorial district, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has announced the successful presentation and passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by the Senate, following over three months of intensive legislative work.
Speaking after plenary, the lawmaker disclosed that he presented the report of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Appropriations, culminating in the approval of an upward review of the budget from ₦58.4 trillion to ₦68.3 trillion. He noted that the adjustment was necessitated by critical national priorities and the need to address key sectors of the economy.
Senator Adeola further briefed members of the press on the rationale behind the increase, explaining that the revised budget size reflects prevailing economic realities, revenue projections, and the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, social welfare, and economic stability.
The session was presided over by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, alongside other distinguished senators who participated in deliberations before the bill was passed.
The passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fiscal planning process, setting the stage for the implementation of policies aimed at driving growth, enhancing public service delivery, and improving the overall standard of living for citizens.
