The Real Reason Revealed”, Tanko Explains Why Peter Obi Joined ADC

The National Leader of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has disclosed that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) mainly to position himself for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an interview "Tanko said he was confident that Obi’s entry into the ADC would energise political support across the country, describing the former Anambra State governor as one of Nigeria’s most popular political figures.

Tanko played down the significance of recent defections by South-East governors to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that Obi’s appeal cuts across party lines and regional affiliations.

“He remains a highly popular candidate and will attract even more support than he did in 2023,” Tanko said.

According to him, electoral victories are decided by voters rather than political officeholders, adding that Obi’s popularity among Nigerians continues to grow.

Tanko further argued that governors cannot control voting behaviour, especially at a time when citizens are increasingly determined to make independent political choices.

The votes will come from the people, not the governors, and the people want Obi as their next president,” he added.

Peter Obi recently defected to the ADC as part of a broader effort to unify opposition forces under a national coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election
