The Ogun State Government has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government for the transfer of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Odogbolu, Ogun State to federal ownership as it was officially pronounced Tai Solarin Federal University of Education by the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodu, CON during the 17th Convocation Ceremony.
The signing ceremony took place on Thursday January 29, 2026 at the University Hall during the institution’s 17th Convocation Ceremony and 21st anniversary celebration of the University
The MoU officially completes the handover procedure of the university to the Federal Government, transforming the institution into Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED).
The transition is expected to unlock greater opportunities, strengthen teacher education, and position the university for long-term growth and national impact.
The transition is described as a historic milestone that reflects the underscores and a shared commitment between the Ogun State and Federal Governments to institutional stabilize, staff welfare, students’ interests sustainable development and the vision of promoting national equity through a balanced distribution of federal institutions, while honouring the enduring legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, and the late Awujale of Ijebuland for their immense contributions to education.
At the convocation ceremony, 43 best graduating students were rewarded with ₦500,000 each, while the overall best graduating student received ₦2 million.
Three prominent Nigerians were also honoured with Honorary Doctorate Degrees at the ceremony: her excellency,
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, ably represented by her excellency, Hajia Nana Shettimah, his Excellency,
Aremo Olusegun Osoba, represented by Hon. Adeyemi and his Excellency,
Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Executive Governor of Ogun State.
In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adekunle Olanrewaju Adeogun, FISN, acknowledged distinguished guests and paid tribute to former Vice-Chancellors of the university, including the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olukayode Oyekanmi Oyesiku (Professor Emeritus), as well as Professors Olusegun Victor Awonusi, Oluyemisi Oluremi Obilade, Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu, and the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwole Sikiru Banjo, for their selfless service to the university
Professor Adeogun congratulated the 4,717 graduating students across various departments and made a clarion call for public, private partnerships to address critical institutional needs.
These include student accommodation, multipurpose lecture theatres, digital infrastructure, perimeter fencing and surveillance systems, a Senate Building, sports complex, farm research institute, staff recruitment and training, and the upgrading of vocational centres.
The Executive Governor, Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON in his remarks, commended the Federal Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritising educational reforms and stability within the university system nationwide. He acknowledged federal legislators from Ijebu and Remo, as well as royal fathers led by the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Adeyeye Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for their presence at the ceremony and the Chief of staff Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, disclosing that ₦275.4 billion was allocated to the sector in the 2026 budget to expand access, reduce inequality, and ensure inclusive education regardless of background, tribe, or religion.
He also congratulated Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Aremo Olusegun Osoba on their honorary doctorate awards, describing the honours as well-deserved recognition of their enduring contributions to education, national development, and service to humanity.
