It was a moment of joy, gratitude, and interfaith harmony yesterday as High Chief Olor’ogun (Dr.) Sonny Folorunso Kuku, OFR , the Ogbeni-Oja of Ijebuland, marked his 82nd birthday with a dual celebration that also featured the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijebu Chapter being hosted for 2026 Annual Prayer Week, tagged My year of Restoration at his home at Igbeba, ijebuode.
The event, held in Ijebuode, brought together Christian leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the life, legacy, and enduring contributions of the respected Ijebu statesman.
Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ijebu Ode Chapter, were hosted by the celebrant in a special thanksgiving session, offering prayers for his continued good health, wisdom, and longevity. The gathering underscored High Chief Kuku’s longstanding support for religious harmony, community development, and peaceful coexistence across faiths in Ijebuland.
Speaking during the celebration, CAN Ijebu Ode chairman Pastor Dele Taiwo described High Chief Olorogun Amos Sunny Kuku as a bridge-builder whose life exemplifies humility, generosity, and commitment to the growth of society. They commended his consistent encouragement of Christian activities and his openness to interfaith collaboration, noting that such virtues have strengthened unity within the Ijebu community.
In his response, High Chief Olorogun Sunny Kuku expressed deep gratitude to God for the gift of life at 82 and thanked CAN Ijebu for the prayers and goodwill. He reaffirmed his belief in love, tolerance, and mutual respect as essential pillars for societal progress, urging leaders and citizens alike to continue promoting peace and service to humanity.
The Ogbeni-Oja of Ijebuland also used the occasion to reflect on his life journey, emphasizing the importance of giving back to society and supporting initiatives that uplift the people, regardless of religious or cultural differences.
The junior brother of the host and celebrant, Dr. Yemi Kuku, expressed gratitude to God for sparing his brother to witness his 82nd birthday in good health and prosperity. He prayed for many more years of strength and continued service to humanity.
The celebration concluded with goodwill messages, prayers, and warm tributes, marking not only another year in the life of High Chief Sunny Amos Kuku but also a symbolic reaffirmation of unity between traditional leadership and the Christian community in Ijebuland.
