The Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty Oba De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, has joined his ancestors at the age of 89, bringing to an end a remarkable reign that lasted 48 years on the throne.
Oba Menu-Toyi I, one of the longest-reigning traditional rulers in Badagry, was widely respected for his wisdom, humility, and commitment to peace and cultural preservation. His passing marks the end of an era in the ancient coastal town, known for its rich history and cultural significance.
Ascending the throne several decades ago, Oba Menu-Toyi I ruled through periods of social, political, and generational change, maintaining stability and unity within Badagry and its surrounding communities. Throughout his reign, he served as a bridge between tradition and modern governance, earning admiration from both traditional institutions and government authorities.
As Akran of Badagry, the late monarch was a strong advocate for the preservation of indigenous customs, the promotion of peaceful coexistence, and the resolution of disputes through dialogue.
